How much fun is American camp work?

THE BEST SUMMER OF YOUR LIFE for 2017! Fun all day, every day, meeting new friends and seeing more of the world!

To work at a summer camp in America, is there a minimum age?

You have to be 18 years of age by June 1st 2017 if you wish to particpate on the program. This is becuase the US Embassy wont issue an appointment to get your visa until you're 18.

How do I apply to USA Summercamp?

You can fill in the online application at any time. Click on the big "Apply Now" button and fill in the initial application.  It gets the process started towards a great summer.

How do I obtain information I can't find on the website?

You can come and visit one of our presentations at different universities and hotels. Visit the Events page on this website for more information.  You can also email us on admin@usasummercamp.co.uk, call our customer service team on 0121 411 9165.

Can I come and see a presentation?

Yes! Keep an eye on the homepage/events page for our list of presentations.  Alternatively, send us an email on admin@usasummercamp.co.uk for your nearest one.

When does camp start?

Camp training will usually start between June 1st and June 28th. Each camp starts on a different date.  You may be required to go a few days either side of this.  Some of our camps start much earlier in May, so we may be able to get you over the America earlier!

The latest date we want you available on your application is June 19th. This is to ensure we have enough camps available for you.

Can I go to camp with a friend?

We always do our best to get you to camp with a friend if you wish. Unfortnuately, this is not always possible and we can't give any guarantees.  You can still have the chance to meet up if your camps are in the same state and of course you can travel after camp together. You may get the best of both worlds, so you can introduce each other to new friends and meet twice as many people!

I can't commit to 9 weeks at camp, shall I still apply?

Unfortunately we do require you to be available for this length of time.  Late start dates after 19th June are also harder to find places for.  So, the longer you're available - the more camps are available!

Do I need experience working with children?

No not at all!  Experience helps and is nice to see. Your biggest attribute is enthusiasm and a will to work with children.  If your hard working, flexible and want to have fun, camp will love you!

Do I need to find my own flights and insurance?

USA Summercamp will assist you in finding the best return flight to America. We will also provide travel insurance for your stay at camp.

How do I make a payment?

On your profile you're able to make payments in the bottom right hand corner.  Dont forget to achieve your discounts.

Your Profile...

How many references do I require?

You need to get 3 references.  These must be from professional people such as ex-emoployers, tutors, school teachers etc. We also accept character references.  Getting references is simple, free and really easier to get. The sooner you get them, the sooner we can get you a place at camp.

Do I have to get a CRB certificate?

Yes! If you have a current CRB certificate, great! But it must be from September 1st 2016 onwards.  We currently advise particiants to get a Police ACRO check, this is downloadable from your profile page.  It's quick, easy and designed for visa purposes.

I have a criminal record. What are the implications of this?

Unfortunately you are ineligable on the program if you have a current criminal record. Give us a call, or show us what it says on your Police ACRO because sometimes you can get a private appointment with the US Embassy.

Is there a deadline for me to get my 3 references, Police ACRO and Medical Form in?

All paperwork must be completed by May 1st. Get them done sooner though to achieve your discounts on the program. Any paperwork outstanding can lead you to being withdrawn so get them done and out the way asap.

When will I find out about my placement?

Placements run from the moment your profile is complete, up to the end of June.  The more effort you put into your profile - the more you'll stand out to camp!  Earlier completion of your paperwork and an online video gives you more chance of an earlier placement. Don't forget to come to one of our Camp Directors Fairs too, usually in January - meet the camps yourself and walk away with a position.

Should I email some camps myself?

USA Summercamp has a very experienced and well respected placement team that speaks to hundreds of camps on a day to day basis.  Camps are very busy and you shouldn't cold call them, sometimes this reflects badly. When camp does contact you though, make sure of a speedy response!

Visa

Do I need to go to the US Embassy to get a visa?

Every participant will have an appointment booked at the US Embassy in either London or Belfast, whichever suits you more.  It's a very easy procedure which we manage the appointment booking, but you have to go to your visa appointment. Appointments last between 20 minutes and one and a half hours generally.

I'm worried about not getting a visa?

All your important paperwork will be taken care of by us. There is an online form you need to fill in and you just need to manage the checklist we give you. We arrange and assist you with everything you need, you just need to turn up on time to your appointment.  Remember to book an earlier appointment to get your visa as early as possible.

What forms do I need to take to the Embassy?

You'll be sent a checklist, which is also on your profile of what to bring and fill in. It's one simple online form called a DS-160.  The USA Summercamp staff working at the Embassy will hand you all other important documents on the day of your appointment.

After Camp

How long can I travel for after camp?

You will have a months "grace" period when your visa ends in the US, so you can travel around America with friends from camp or from home.  Last summer, most people had to return to the UK on or before October 21st.
